Our Project Approach
Most people are familiar with the concept of “teaching a person to fish”. But what happens if the river is polluted ,or runs dry? That’s why we see ourselves as extending this thinking even further, we help communities’ skill up and organise so they have the capability to collectively respond to a range of circumstances with greater confidence.
We create platforms for rural communities to create and achieve their own vision for change. This involves helping communities to determine local priorities and develop action plans to achieve them. Our focus is on ensuring that communities have the ability to lead and manage these projects beyond our involvement.
Our 5-year projects focus on two thematic areas:
Supporting local schools to be sustainability hubs for the wider community. This involves students, teachers and parents designing solutions to address local challenges such as hunger, lack of water, poor sanitation and energy poverty.
Supporting communities in establishing cooperatives to address their self-identified development challenges e.g. community banks and agricultural cooperatives.
